U.T. Khader asks Dakshina Kannada administration to address sand shortage

Mangaluru, February 26, 2025: U.T. Khader, Speaker and Mangaluru MLA, on Tuesday said he has asked the district administration to coordinate with different departments and solve the sand shortage problem in the district.

Speaking to reporters here, Mr. Khader said sand should be made affordable to the common man in the district. The Sand Bazar app, introduced when he was a Minister, should be reintroduced by the district administration, he said.

He said when the district faced acute sand shortage, then Union Minister Oscar Fernandes had facilitated sand extraction from rivers in coastal regulation zone. With the extraction from CRZ being stopped on orders from the National Green Tribunal, the NDA government at the Centre should work towards addressing the issue, he said.

Speaking about the upcoming State Budget, there were possiblities of a skill development centre and OPD centre for the district government Wenlock Hospital being sanctioned.
