Udupi: Couple injured following a banyan tree fell on their house

Udupi, April 15, 2025: A couple were injured when a banyan tree fell on their house at Kadiyali in Udupi city as heavy winds accompanied with thundershowers swept Udupi city and some other parts of Udupi district on Monday evening.

The injured were identified as Raghavendra Bhat, 60, and his wife Neeraja Bhat, 49, who were admitted to a hospital for treatment. The incident took place at Katte Acharya Road at Kadiyali.


Couple


Social worker Nityananda Olakadu and others who rushed to the spot rescued the couple and admitted them to a hospital. The house was damaged in the incident. Fire and Emergency Services personnel cut the branches of tree that fell on the road to enable traffic movement.

Houses damaged


In all, three houses were damaged in tree fall at Moodabettu ward in Udupi city.

Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna who visited the spot asked the officials to remove the tree and provide compensation to the owners of houses.

Udupi City Municipal Council president Prabhakara Poojary also visited the spot.

Roof flown away

Asbestos sheets roof of a house belonging to one Indira Serigarthi was flown away in heavy winds near Hiriyadkka in the evening. An electricity pole and power supply cables were also damaged in the incident, reports reaching here said.
