Udupi: Man arrested for raping daughter for 11 months

Udupi: A 52-year-old man allegedly raped his 24-year-old daughter for 11 months at Hunasemakki village in the district and made her pregnant, police said.

 

The accused identified Shankar Poojary (50) of Yadadi-Matyadi under Kota police station limits. As per the complaint lodged by the locals in the Kota police station, Poojary has been allegedly raping his 25-year-old daughter for the past 11 months.

Pojari had threatened his daughter with dire consequences if she disclosed it to anyone, was arrested on Sunday on a complaint from her, they said.

 

Poojary has two unmarried daughters. His son passed away in an accident last year, and since then he has been spending the amount received as pension on alcohol.

The woman, along with her mother, had left the village to an undisclosed destination fearing ostracisation by the villagers, police said.
