Ullal, Feb 21, 2025: A sum of ₹8 lakh kept in a locker at a nationalized bank in Kotekar has been eaten by termites. The affected customers have alleged that poor bank maintenance is to blame.
However, the bank officials have distanced themselves from responsibility, stating that this matter does not concern them. According to RBI regulations, storing cash in lockers is not allowed. Therefore, they claim the loss of money is not the bank’s liability.
The affected customers have lodged a complaint with the bank’s headquarters in Bengaluru, urging them to address the issue caused by poor maintenance of the old building. Six months ago, a family had stored the money in the locker, intending to use it when needed. However, when they attempted to retrieve it, they found the entire amount in a crumpled and deteriorated state. The locker had been soaked in rainwater, turning the money completely black and disintegrating into dust.
