Mangalore, Dec 8: Suresh P, the sub inspector of Urwa Police Station; PC Ajay; and HC 1330 Narendra arrested 2 animal skin smugglers near KSRTC Bus Stand, Bejai, on Dec 7, Monday. The skins of a Cheetah and a deer along with the horns of a deer worth Rs 5.5 lakhs were seized.
During a press conference organized in the SP’s office on Dec 8, Tuesday, SP Dr. A S Rao said that the cops were doing their rounds near KSRTC Bus Stand last morning when they spotted the two.
The arrested are Veeresh Hiremutt (27), the son of late Rudrayya Hiremutt of Kotekoppa House, Shimoga, and Nisar Himam Sahab (26), the son of Himam Sahab of Shimoga. They were arrested when they were waiting for customers who were to purchase the animal skins.
This is the first case of animal skin smuggling during this year. Inspector N Niranjanraj Aras of Mangalore West Police Station, under the leadership of Assistant Superintendent of Police will investigate the case further.
