Mangalore, Sep 13, 2013: State Minister for Health and Family Welfare U T Khader said that Vajpayee Arogyashree health scheme is one of the important schemes introduced to provide public health service under the State’s Health and Family Welfare Department.
Speaking at the press meet held at IMA Auditorium on September 13, Friday, Khader said that the main aim of this scheme is to provide free treatment and perform free surgery for the major diseases related to heart, cancer, nerve and others for the people from Below the Poverty Line.
He also said that this scheme will facilitate five members from each BPL family. The beneficiaries can avail the medical treatment up to Rs 1.5 lakhs per year. It will also provide the additional amount of Rs 50,000 for the surgeries which will cost more than the amount given for the schemes.
In the coming days, this facility will also be extended to the APL card holders. Under this scheme, people can get 447 types of treatment and other 50 surgeries for various diseases, he said.
A total of 10 private hospitals in the city have been registered to provide the facility under this scheme. A team of specialty hospitals have been formed to provide treatment for major and serious diseases.
The disease detecting tests to major surgeries will be performed free of cost. The hospitals will later send the bill to the trust and the government will pay back the bill to the hospitals. Every hospital will have an ’Arogya Mitra’ counter to provide information on these schemes to the general public, he added.
The hospitals which will provide treatment for patients with BPL cards are A J Hospital, Fr Muller Medical College Hospital, Justice K S Hegde Charitable Hospital, Kasturba Hospital, Unity Health Complex and Yenepoya Specialty hospitals.
