Moily bags MMA’s Best Manager Award 2010Mangalore, December 23: Mangalore Management Association President M. Shekhar Poojary announced during a press conference that the MMA has nominated Marpadi Veerappa Moily, the union minister for law and justice, for the Best Manager 2010 award. He was speaking at a press conference held on Thursday in the presence of Dr. Devaraj, the previous president of MMA; Vice President T. G. Shenoy, Secretary U. Ram Rao, and Joint Secretary P. Ravindra Rao.


M. Narendra, the chairman and managing director of Indian Overseas Bank, will confer the award on Moily on Dec 28, 2010 at a function, which will be held in the conference hall of the SDM College of Management. The chief guest will be Dr. P. Dayananda Pai, the chairman of Century Group, Bangalore.


Veerappa Moily, who was born on Jan 12, 1940 at Marpadi in Moodubidri, got his BA from Government College, Mangalore and completed his BL from University Law College, Bangalore. He was elected as the MP of Chickballapur district in 2009 and currently serves as the general secretary in-charge of the All India Congress Committee, Andhra Pradesh. One of the senior-most Congress workers, he is an advisor of the Congress leader Sonia Gandhi.


Moily was the chief minister of Karnataka from Nov 19, 1992 to Dec 11, 1994. He was elected to the Karnataka State Legislative Assembly from Karkala constituency, Udupi district and was the first ethnic Tuluva chief minister of Karnataka.
