Veteran Yakshagana artiste Thonse Jayanth Kumar passes away

Udupi, June 26, 2023: Veteran Yakshagana artiste Thonse Jayanth Kumar has passed away. He was 78 years old.

Jayanth Kumar who was the son of national award winning Thonse Kanthappa Master, had won many awards and titles including Yakshagana Savyasachi, Yakshavaridhi, Kalinga Navada award and Janapada Academy Award. He was also honoured by the former president Shanker Dayal Sharma.

 

Jayanth Kumar apart from donning various Yakshagana roles was also a Himmela artiste and had also taught thousands of students.

He is survived by his wife and three sons.
