Mangalore, October 13:“Hautan” a Konkani Novel by Mahabaleshwar Sail, Konkani novelist and Kendra Sahitya Academy Award winner, has been selected by the Board of Juries for the First Vimala V. Pai Vishwa Konkani Sahitya Puraskar 2010, constituted by World Konkani Centre for outstanding Konkani Publication of the year.
Mahabaleshwar Sail is a Goa based Konkani author who hails from Majoli of Karwar District of Karnataka State. He has authored 13 books so far in the form of short stories and novels. He has been conferred with Sahitya Academy award (1993), Dr. T.M.A. Pai Award (1997), Goa Kala Academy (1989 and 1996), Katha Award (2007), Cultural Award of Goa Government (2006) and Literary Award of Goa Government (2007). Most of his works have been translated in to English, Marathi and Hindi Languages.
Sail served Armed forces and participated in the 1965 Indo Pak war and later joined Indian Postal Services. After retirement he is based in Goa. Mahabaleshwar Sail has served as member in Sahitya Academy, Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy and Goa Kala Academy. He has also been served as the president of All India Konkani Literary Conference in 2005. One of his short stories has made in to feature film and the Konkani Film “Pelthadcho Manis” entered the Toranto International Film Festival and gained special recognitions.
The Vimala V. Pai Vishwa Konkani Sahitya Puraskar carries a Cash Component of Rupees One Lakh and a citation and will be conferred to the author in a glittering ceremony to be going to held at Goa or Mangalore in November 2010. Founder and the President of World Konkani Centre Basti Vaman Shenoy has stated in the press release.
