Wenlock/Lady Goschen Hospitals to be renovated and equipped

DC subodh yadav dec 21Mangalore, December 21: The Arogya Raksha Samithi has decided to sanction Rs. 1.61 crore for the development of Wenlock Hospital and Lady Goschen Hospital during its executive committee meeting.

DC Subodh Yadav, who chaired the meeting, discussed the development of the above-mentioned hospitals and approved proposals to launch development projects worth Rs. 1,61,22,000 at the hospitals.

Rs. 1,30,32,000 will be spent on developing Wenlock Hospital. BSNL’s EPABX system at the hospital will be upgraded for the benefit of patients and their relatives. Every ward in the hospital will be given phone connections at the cost of Rs. 90,000. A liquid medical oxygen plant will also be established to ensure continuous supply of oxygen to the cardiac ICU, ICU, operation theatres, and regional advanced pediatric care centre at the hospital. The Indian Overseas Bank management promised to donate Rs. 5 lakh to install copper pipes for this purpose.

The Arogya Raksha Samithi also decided to invite tenders to supply 300 bedside lockers and 200 cots for the hospital. An endoscopy unit will also be established at the cost of Rs. 20 lakh and an audiometry machine worth Rs. 4.5 lakh will be purchased for the hospital. An operating microscope worth Rs. 7 lakh for the orthopedic department will also be purchased.

A proposal to lay vitrified tiles on the floors and glazed tiles on the walls of all the wards in the hospital has been approved. The first floor of the hospital will be converted into a full-fledged operation theatre unit, a project that will cost around Rs. 30 lakh. Besides, the committee has approved projects worth Rs. 30,90,000 to be launched at Lady Goschen Hospital.

The DC has directed the officials concerned to collaborate with KMC Hospital and beautify the two hospitals.

Dr. O. R. Shrirangappa, the district health and family welfare officer; R. S. Shaha, the assistant drug controller; Dr. A. M. Shetty, the Mangalore City Corporation health officer; and C. B. Navalagunda, the assistant executive engineer of PWD, were also present at the meeting.
