Woman dies in scooter accident, residents protest over poor road condition in Thokkottu

Mangaluru, Nov 10, 2024: A 47-year-old woman lost her life in a tragic accident on Friday after falling from a scooter and being run over by a tanker lorry, sparking a protest by local residents demanding immediate road repairs.

The victim, identified as Rahamat, was riding pillion on a scooter driven by G. Abdul Rasheed. The duo was en route to Mangaluru International Airport from Yenepoya Hospital in Deralakatte.

According to the police, the accident occurred at Chambugudde when Rasheed lost control of the vehicle on a slippery stretch of the road. The scooter skidded, causing Rahamat to fall onto the road, where she was struck by the lorry trailing behind them. Rahamat succumbed to her injuries on the spot before she could be taken to a nearby hospital.

The incident has prompted local residents to protest, demanding authorities address the poor road conditions that have led to frequent accidents in the area. Police have registered a case and are investigating the matter.
