Mangalore, Nov 11: The Yenepoya Foundation organized its Academic Excellency Award Function 2009 on the campus of Yenepoya University on Nov 11, Wednesday.
Y Abdulla Kunhi, the chancellor of Yenepoya University, spoke at a press conference held before the awards function. He said that, besides distributing awards to meritorious students of
SSLC, PUC, and Degree, Yenepoya Foundation offers 5 free MBBS seats and 5 free BDS seats in Yenepoya Medical and Dental Colleges to students of merit.
Dr Ravi Vaswani, the registrar of Yenepoya University, said that, although the awards are conferred on 200 recipients annually, the foundation is conferring awards on 9 universities and on 209 individuals who have scored the highest percentage in their respective examinations this year.
B Ahmed Haji Mohiudeen, the trustee of Islamic Academy of Education, welcomed the gathering and introduced the chief guests of the award function. Y Mohammed Kunhi gave the presidential speech. Sheik Ali, the chief guest, lectured on “National Education Day” in celebration of the birth anniversary of Dr Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad, the first education minister of India.
V Mohammed Kunhi, the chairman of Yenepoya Moideen Kunhi Memorial Educational and Charitable Trust, felicitated Prof B Sheik Ali, the founder and former president of Goa and Mangalore Universities, with a shawl and a memento for completing 84 exemplary years of his life. Y Abdulla Kunhi felicitated Ammabba Hajjabba with a cash prize of Rs 50,000. The recipients of the free BDS and MBBS seats were also felicitated.
Prof Syed Akheel Ahmed, the vice chancellor of Yenepoya University; Prof P C M Kunhi, the director of Academics and Administration; Dr Habeed Rahaman; B A Haji Mohiudeen, the trustee of YMI Trust; M A Abdul Rahaman, the member of the selection committee; Prof N Ismail; and B S Ibrahim were also present at the award function.
