Youth stabbed to death by friends at Chelyar

Mangalore, Feb 5, 2012: A man was found stabbed to death at MRPL Colony, Chelyar on the outskirts of Mangalore late on Saturday night. 

The victim is Mani, also known as Manikanthan (32), a bus cleaner hailing from Munchur. Reportedly, a group of 7 – 8 people stabbed him to death on the occasion of a Nemotsava held on the location. 

Reportedly, Santhosh, Sathish, Vasanth, Hemanth, Shekhar, and Niranjan had a quarrel with Mani. The group walked to Shantikatte, consumed alcohol, and continued arguing. The argument turned intense at 2:30 a.m., after which they attacked Mani with knives and stabbed him on the chest, back, and abdomen. 

The local youth notified the Suratkal Police, who rushed to the spot. Although they rushed Mani to the hospital, they were unable to save his life. 

The accused are local people, who have been charged on a other cases. Pradeep, one of the group, has been accused of creating public disturbance and of using abusive language against Dalits. 

The Suratkal police are currently investigating the case.
