Mangalore, ,Dec 1, 2011 : Dr. K. N. Vijayaprakash, the CEO of the Zilla Panchayat, flagged off the Legal Services Literacy Chariot and Mobile Adalat at the district court complex on Dec 1, Thursday.
The chariot will cover Mangalore, conducting workshops providing legal information beneficial for the common man. Some of the topics that will be dealt with are Prevention of Domestic Violence Act, children’s rights, student laws, labour laws, and others. Resource persons will speak on these topics in different places all over Mangalore.
In his inaugural address, Dr. Vijayaprakash said that creating awareness regarding law and legislation is essential. Since Mangalore does not have enough courts to handle all the cases, a mobile court is of great importance, he added.
Speaking on the occasion, S. P. Chengappa, the president of the Mangalore Bar Association, said that rural people are being exploited because of their ignorance on legal issues, owing to which educating them is of paramount importance. He also said that the Bar Association will publish articles related to law to increase people’s knowledge on legal issues. He also revealed the fact that more than 3 crore cases are pending at all courts within India.
H. R. Deshpande, the district sessions judge; Labhu Ram, the superintendent of police; and Dr. B. K. Ravindra, the principal of SDM Law College, were also present.
