Mangaluru, Aug 28, 2018: The 164th birth anniversary celebration of Brahmashree Narayana Guru, the great saint reformer, was held here on August 27, Monday under the joint aegis of the Dakshina Kannada District Administration, Department of Kannada and Culture, Zilla Panchayat and the Sri Gokarnanatha Temple.
Presiding over the function, MLA of Mangaluru South constituency, Vedavyasa Kamath hailed Shree Narayana Guru as a visionary saint whose messages are a guiding light to the society at all times.
Dr Ganesh Amin Sankamar, Lecturer at St Aloysius College, spoke on the life of Shree Narayana Guru and how he strived hard for the emancipation of the sufferings of the poor, downtrodden and the backward classes.
Mayor Bhasker Moily also spoke on the occasion. Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, President of the District Kannada Sahitya Parishat, H S Sairam, President of Sri Gokarnanatha Temple Committee, Padmaraj R, Treasurer, Mohammad Monu, Taluk Panchayat President were present among others.
In Udupi : Shree Narayana Guru Jayanthi was celebrated at the Billawa Samudaya Bhavan at Katapady on behalf of the District Administration. Kota Srinivas Poojary, MLC inaugurated the programme.
Shobha Karandlaje, MP, Lalaji R Mendon, MLA, Shivananda Kapashi, ZP CEO and others participated in the celebrations.
