Mangaluru, Apr 14, 2016: Addressing media on April 13, Wednesday, Vaidehi, writer and chairperson, Dr. T.M.A. Pai Chair for Indian Literature, said that two Marathi writers who would talk about their life and their works at the programme. Dr. T.M.A. Pai Chair for Indian Literature, Manipal University, will organise a programme titled ‘In memory of Ambedkar’ at the Nutana Ravindra Mantapa on Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) College campus on April 15.
In the morning session, the author of the acclaimed Marathi novel Br , Kavitha Mahajan would deliver a talk on ‘Me and my writing’ at 10 a.m. This would be followed by a discussion between the author and Uma Kulkarni, translator, on ‘Women’s literature and its form in Marathi’. This session would be moderated by Meera Baindur.
In the post-lunch session, Lakshman Gaikwad, author of acclaimed Marathi novel Uchalya would speak about his life and his writing, at 2.30 p.m. It would be followed by a discussion between the author and the writer K. Phaniraj on ‘Dalit literature and its form in Marathi’. Madhava Chippalli would moderate the session. The Dr. T.M.A. Pai Chair was set up in Manipal University in April, 2015, with the objective of documentation, dissemination and promotion of Indian literary traditions.
All through the year, the chair had conducted many programmes in the form of lectures, discussions and demonstrations. Some of these programmes included a reading and discussion of select portions of Kumaravyasa’s Bharata , a lecture-demonstration of Bharata’s Natyashastra , a symposium on the multifaceted genius of Rabindranath Tagore, a contemporary understanding of Kota Shivaram Karanth’s novel Marali Mannige and poetry workshops.
