’Build and run’ hospital at Kateel agreed

Manipal, Dec 06, 2016: Reports confirm, Manipal University, Manipal, has signed a memorandum of understanding with Sanjeevani Charitable Trust, Mumbai, at the Manipal Edu building here to construct and run a 100-bed secondary hospital at Kateel.  The hospital will be named Kateel Sanjeevani Hospital. The trust will construct the hospital to provide medical benefits to the economically poor sections of the society and the university will manage it.

According to the memorandum of understanding, an advisory board of nine members will be constituted. Two members will be representatives of the trust, five will be from the university, one from Kateel Temple and one prominent person from the locality. The signatories to the pact were Dr Narayana Sabhahit, registrar, Manipal University, Manipal and Dr Suresh Rao, trustee of Sanjeevani Trust.

Pro Chancellor Dr H S Ballal, Vice Chancellor Dr H Vinod Bhat, Kasturba Hospital Medical Superintendent and COO Dr (Col) M Dayananda and Medical Superintendent Dr Anand Venugopal, KMC Associate Dean Dr B Unnikrishnan, Director General (Services) Col Badrinarayan and Raviraj and Kishore L Kamath from Projects. From Kateel Shri Durgaparmeshwari Temple Trust: Vidhwan Shri Harinarayandas Asranna (Chief Priest), K Ravindranath Poonja (Trustee) were present on the occasion.

Three-day ‘rath yatra’ opposing Yettinahole project, Dec. 10 to 13



It is announced at a media gathering on Dec 5, Monday, that ’Netravathi Rakshana Samyukta Samiti’  will organise a three-day ‘rath yatra’ in DK, Dakshina Kannada from December 10 to urge the government to drop the Yettinahole project.

K. Vijaya Kumar Shetty, president of the samiti, said that the ‘yatra’ would begin from Kukke Subrahmanya and end at Kateel passing via Dharmasthala, Uppinangady, Polali, Kadri and Bappanadu. River waters of Kumaradhara, Netravathi, Phalguni would be taken in a ‘kalasha’ en route the ‘yatra’ and mixed with the river water of Shambhavi at the end.  Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP, would lead the ‘yatra’. He claimed that people of all religion and faith would welcome the ‘yatra’ en route.
