Mangaluru, Sep 16,2016: Nagarika Horata Samiti of Jokatte village is gearing up to hold a protest on September 19 against Mangaluru Ciy Ptolice for serving notices under CrPC Section 113 seeking bond from its members, who were part of the fight against pollution from MRPL Phase III unit.
Samiti members said that they will hold a protest rally waving black flags from Surathkal railway bridge to Surathkal police station. DYFI state president Muneer Katipalla, a member of the Samiti, told reporters that the police action treating activists as criminals is condemnable. He said the city police has sent notice seeking bond of Rs 50,000 and surety from B S Hussein, 75, convener of the Samiti, members Aboobakker Bava, 58, Moideen Sherief, 42 and Vijayananda Rao, 60.
"We also came to know from sources that the city police is planning to add them into the rowdy sheeter list. It is unfortunate that those who fought against pollution from the MRPL Phase III Coke and Sulphur unit are being treated as rowdy-sheeters. Senior citizen Hussein is a retired government officer who worked in Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat and Mangaluru City Corporation. While Aboobakker and Moideen are elected members of Thokur - Jokatte gram panchayat, Vivekananda is a noted Yakshagana artist. However, the city police is opening rowdy sheeter list against them with ulterior motives forgetting their respected backgrounds," Muneer alleged.
