’Rescue NGO’ to approach SC to blockporn sites

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru : Speaking to media, Abishek Clifford, CEO of the Rescue NGO,  claimed that a study conducted by his organisation in different parts of the country had found that there was an addiction to porn among youths aged between 16 and 21. He also claimed that watching such content leads to rape. He added that  Rescue NGO has decided to approach the Supreme Court seeking blocking of pornographic websites.

When asked to substantiate his claim, Clifford said students themselves have admitted to this. “Nobody will admit they have been watching porn. But we collected information from youths on their peers,” he said.

According to  Clifford, in their survey carried out in 25 colleges covering 470 students in Mangaluru, 68 per cent of the boys taking degree courses watch pornographic material for an average of seven hours a week. Nearly 28 per cent of the girls do the same for three hours a week.

He said the findings were similar in Mysuru, Chamarajanagar, and eight other places in Karnataka. He said the findings would be submitted as part of the public interest petition the NGO plans to file in the apex court.
