Udupi, March 16, 2016 :  Presiding over a ’Road Safety Committee Meeting’ on March 15, at the Deputy Commissioner’s office here,  K.M. Hegde, Executive Engineer, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), said that a  ’at-grade-level road’ will be constructed on NH 66 at the Ambalpady Junction without causing traffic problems to the residents.

The meeting focussed primarily on the issues the local people had with regard to the widening of NH 66 at Ambalpady Junction, Santhekatte Junction, Brahmavar, and Kota. In some places, there had been public protests demanding underpass. At other places, people had problems with the existing underpasses or those under construction.

Select local people from Ambalpady, Brahmavar and other places, participated in the meeting to air their grievances and to hear what the NHAI proposed to do to resolve the issues.

Udupi DC Dr R. Vishal said that there was confusion among people about road widening at Ambalpady Junction. Then there was confusion about what was in the original plan at Ambalpady — cattle underpass or vehicle underpass. The idea was to get both the sides — people and officials — to listen and talk to each other, at the Road Safety Meeting. Finally, it had been decided to construct an at-grade-level road at Ambalpady Junction. The at-grade-level road would be wider. A traffic signal light would be put up at the junction as per the demand of the local people so that there was no traffic chaos there. The district administration would study the technical aspects of the at-grade-level road at Ambalpady Junction, and also provide the minutes of the meeting held to the Ambalpady Rashtriya Heddari Balekedara Hitarakshana Vedike soon.
