Mangalore, May 23: Twelve bodies of plane crash victims, which are charred beyond recognition, have not yet been indentified. Grieved relatives, who have arrived from places such as Kasargod and Kannur, are reduced to tears.
An anxious relative said that identification was impossible because only the teeth of these bodies are visible. So far, bodies have been identified by bangles and watches. But, one of these bodies doesn’t even have limbs, and there is hardly any way of identifying it. The sight of the charred bodies was terrifying to behold and the stench of burned human remains was too much to bear.
D. V. Sadananda Gowda informed journalists in front of the mortuary that 110 bodies have already been identified and handed over to the relatives. A team of experts has arrived from Hyderabad to conduct DNA tests of the unidentifiable bodies. Gowda said the bodies will not be further deteriorated during the DNA tests.
A number of politicians such as Minister for Medical Education Ramachandra Gowda, E. Ahmed, District-in-charge Minister Krishna J. Palemar, and others visited the mortuary and emerged from it overwhelmed with the severity of the tragic incident.
