Nov 15, 2015: Kazuhiko Hasegawa, Chairman, Department of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, Osaka University, Japan, on Nov 14, Saturday urged the student community to engage in ‘kaizen’ or innovation.

Delivering the convocation address at the 13th annual convocation of National Institute of Technology, Karnataka, at Surathkal,   Hasegawa said, “Think globally, act locally, is the word to discuss how we solve environmental problems. Now you need to think globally, act globally. Don’t imitate others, and don’t give up realising your ideal dream.”

Citing the examples of Steve Jobs and Bill Gates,  Hasegawa said both have changed computers from mainframe computer or workstation to personal computers. Though they competed with each other, the methods and background were completely different.

Medals :  About 26 students received gold medals in M. Tech; one each in MCA and MBA, two in M. Sc and 10 in B. Tech. As many as 1,556 students, including 78 Ph.D scholars, 489 M.Tech students were declared eligible to receive their degrees. Bhattacharya said compared to the previous year, more students obtained admissions in good universities in the US and Europe. In the previous academic year, 228 companies visited campus. “Ten of our top students succeeded in receiving offers above Rs. 20 lakh per annum,” he added.
