2 brothers die of drowning on Bakrid day

The deceased are Syed Mohammed (62) and his brother Abdul Khader (58). The missing boy is Riyan (13), who is related to Syed’s wife.

The three went to the beach for a swim as it was a Bakrid holiday. When Riyan was washed away by the waves, Syed and Abdul rushed to his rescue. The local people began shouting for help.

Although a local businessman M. K. Arif, who was on his way to Koteshwar, tried saving them, he too was caught by the waves.

The local people reached the three on a boat, rescued Arif, Syed, and Abdul and rushed them to hospital. Although Arif is on the road to recovery, Abdul and Syed could not be saved.

Riyan’s body is yet to be retrieved.
