Mangalore, Oct. 7, 2012: The people of Hulipare Seldoku in Mudoor in Kundapur were surprised to see a couple of dead leopards last week.
The carcasses were found in the forests, around 300m from the Hulipare main road. The male leopard was 4 years old and the female leopard was 2 years old. Since the carcass of a cow was also found nearby, the forest department feels that the owner of the cow, which might have been killed by the leopards, had decided to take revenge on the animals.
Apparently, the owner of the cow smeared poison on the carcass of the cow and left it in the forest. The leopards must have eaten the remains and died. A large carnivorous animal would take 3 - 4 days to completely devour the carcass, and the owner of the cow is believed to have smeared poison on it after it was partly eaten. Samples have been sent to a forensic lab in Bangalore.
