23-year-old woman dies of burns

Udupi, Feb 7, 2017: A 23-year-old woman died of severe burns while lighting a kerosene pump stove on Sunday night.

According to the Hiriyadka police, Mamatha alias Chaitanya was lighting the kerosene pump stove in her house to cook dinner, when due to negligence, her sari caught fire. When she started shouting, her husband, Jayaram, who was outside, ran into the house and covered her with a blanket to extinguish the fire.

She was rushed to the Kasturba Hospital in Manipal where she died of severe burns. A case was registered.
