Scholarships were given to 383 deserving students of Dakshina Kannada at Infosys Mangalore Development Center under the auspices of Prerana (Employees Social Service Trust), Vidyaposhak (Dharwad), Infosys Mangalore, Dhrithi Foundation, Devinje Sridhara Kakkillaya Foundation, and Yakshagana Kalaranga. SP Dr. A. S. Rao was the chief guest of the scholarship disbursement programme.
Some of the students who received scholarships are pursuing professional courses. All the students are from Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, and Kasargod districts. A total of Rs. 1164789 was given away in scholarships. Prerana and Infosys had provided Rs. 1046699 of this amount, and the rest was provided by Vidyaposhak and various donors.
SP Dr. A. S. Rao said: “The efforts of Infosys and Prerana are stupendous. Students who have benefitted from these scholarships must present better academic achievements the following year.”
After the scholarships were given away, the organizers held a soft skills session for students pursuing professional courses and a goal-setting session for the other students.
Prerana, Dhrithi Foundation, and Vidyaposhak have been supporting needy, but deserving students of DK for the past four years. Besides scholarships, Dhrithi Foundation and Vidyaposhak also provide soft skills training and books for deserving students.
Prominent people such as Bhaskar Chicknanjundappa from Prerana, T. Shivarama Shetty from Yakshagana Kalaranga, Narasimha Moorthy from Vidyaposhak, and Dr. Srinivas Kakkillaya from Dhrithi Foundation were present at the scholarship disbursement programme.
