Mangalore, Nov 11, 2014: A 45-year-old man died after he reportedly fell on an electric saw that he was using to cut wood in Bettampady in Puttur Rural police station limits on Monday.
The police said Aboobacker lost his balance while cutting wood and fell on the saw. Aboobacker cut his neck and was taken to the Puttur government hospital where he died.
His son Abdul Sattar has filed a complaint, the police said.
Suspension revoked
Sub Inspector Umesh Kumar, who had been placed under suspension on October 20 for an alleged custodial assault, reported back to duty on Monday after the order was revoked.
Mr. Umesh Kumar had been placed under suspension for the alleged custodial assault of Charan, a Bajrang Dal activist, who is accused in several criminal cases. There were protests, some in front of the police station, demanding action against Mr. Umesh Kumar.
A preliminary inquiry found substance of harassment that led to the order of suspension. District in-charge Minister B. Ramanath Rai had questioned the order of suspension
Police Commissioner R. Hithendra said a departmental inquiry was going on against Mr. Kumar.
Man arrested
The Moodbidri police have arrested Harish Poojary (35) from Puchhemogaru near Moodbidri for his alleged involvement in the theft of some construction material and also a two-wheeler.
The police have recovered Rs. 39,000 worth of stolen construction material and also the scooter that he had allegedly stolen from Bendoorwell.
The police said he was allegedly involved in nine cases of theft reported in Mangalore East, Mangalore North, Mangalore South, Mulki and Bantwal police station limits.
