5 year old molested, teen held in Udupi

Udupi, Dec 12, 2015 : The district police on Dec 11, Friday arrested a 19-year-old on the charge of sexually assaulting a five-year-old in a village in Udupi taluk on December 8.

The police said the youth has been identified as Prashanth Arer, from Guttala village from Haveri district. He was working as a construction worker and staying in a labourers’ colony in the village. He reportedly enticed the five-year-old girl, who stayed nearby, to come to his house around 9 p.m. and then sexually assaulted her.

The girl came home crying and narrated the incident to her parents. Her mother lodged a complaint on December 9. Meanwhile, Prashanth went absconding.

The police arrested him near Manipal on Dec 11,  and produced him before the District and Sessions Court, which remanded him in judicial custody for 14 days. The parents of the girl are also construction workers.

A case has been registered under Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and Section 376 (rape) of the IPC.
