Mangaluru, Dec 20, 2016: Speaking at the programme on the 51st death anniversary of Mallya, organised by the Konkani Bhas ani Samskriti Prathishtana, Vishwa Konkani Kendra and Kannada and Culture Department on Dec 19, Monday, Nitte University chancellor N Vinay Hegde, said achievements of Late Ullal Srinivas Mallya should be included in the school curriculum to inspire the students.  He said, "Mallya was the architect of modern Mangaluru. Having had a close affinity with the then Central government, Mallya immensely contributed towards the development of Mangaluru," said Hegde.   He said that many Konkani speaking community members were responsible for the progress of the district. They have made their names in banking, industry, commerce and education sectors.

He went to say it was Mallya’s vision that saw the construction of the New Mangalore Port, airport, National Highway and most importantly Karnataka Regional Engineering College (upgraded as National Institute of Technology, Karnataka) in Mangaluru. He is regarded as ’Maker of Modern Mangaluru.’ There is a need to inform the present generation about the simplistic virtues that Mallya followed as an elected representative.

Padil Junction : Vishwa Konkani Kendra president Basthi Vaman Shenoy said that Srinivas Mallya had a close relationship with Jawaharlal Nehru and Lal Bahadur Shastri. A bust of Mallya will come up at Padil junction, which will be named after Mallya.
