Mangalore, Nov 4: Sarojini, a 70-year-old woman has spent around 40 years of her life taking care of 3 mentally challenged children. Thirteen years ago, a grandchild was born, who also turned out to be mentally challenged. The brave woman still takes care of all the 4 and does not give up hope that some day life will take a turn for the better.
Sarojini has 6 children, of whom 4 are mentally challenged. Her eldest daughter Yogini and youngest daughter Laxmi died at the age of 48 and 19, respectively. Her son Raghuveer is employed at a plywood factory and finds it increasingly difficult to handle the financial requirements of the entire family. He finds it difficult even to get the required medication for the family. He either has to borrow or go without purchasing the necessities.
Sarojini has been taking care of the entire family ever since her husband died 35 years ago. The family lives in an ancestral home, located on 4 cents of land. Certain unscrupulous relatives are trying to get their hands on this small property and the case is now in court.
Sarojini has tried her best to get the four mentally challenged members of the family rehabilitated, but without success. Being old, she now finds it difficult to work and seeks the help of kind-hearted individuals and organizations. Her daughter Yashoda (46), son Jagadeesh (43), and daughter Shobha (42), and son Raghuveer’s child (13) need her constant care and attention.
The newspaper "Jayakirana" has already contributed rice to the family. Here is the address and the account details for those who would like to donate.
