The railway police found an 8-year-old boy at the Mangalore Central Railway station and handed him over the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), which in turn, handed him over to the Aloysian Boys’ Home at Ullal. The boy was probably abandoned by his father.
The boy told the CWC that his father’s name is Gopal and that he works as a mason. His mother is a sweeper at the railway station. The couple used to lock him up at home and go for work. So far, the boy has not been admitted to school.
Renee D’Souza, a member of CWC, told reporters that the boy has been identified as Sharath from Bangalore. He said: “We couldn’t locate the village as his description was vague.” The boy said that his father left him at the railway station, saying that he would return soon. Renee surmises that the father might have either abandoned him or met with an accident.
