93 year old ’Bhootha Kola’ exponent Mansapatri Balkunje to be feted

Mangaluru, Nov 6, 2016: Addressing media, president of Chavadi, K K Pejawar said, Gaggara Manadigeda Chavadi has organised felicitations for veterans in the field of ’Bhootha Kola’ to recognise their contribution in practicing customs and traditions.

’Mansapatri Balkunje, a 93-year-old performer, known for his role of Lord in demi god (Daiva Patri) worship will be felicitated along with four others at a programme organised on November 6 at 9.30 am at SDM College in the city. The others selected for honour include-Mayila Nalike, Kuthar, Aithappa Pambada and Sajipa, Poovappa Parava, Bajagoli (known for their role as Daivada Narthana) and Dhamu, Kulai (Daivada Chakri).

Pejavar said it is impotant to respect those performers when the customs and traditoions are vanishing in the present day.Alva’s Education Foundation chairman Dr M Mohan Alva will inaugurate the programme, while Dr Ganesh Ameen Sankamar will be the chief guest. Folk scholar Dr Babu Bannanje will speak on the topic ’Daiva Nadettha Theripu’ (Ritual of Demi God Worship).
