A hanging bridge at Sulthan Bathery gets funds

Mangaluru, April 20, 2015 : The  hanging bridge planned  across the Phalguni river  ( also called the Gurupura) to connect Tannirbavi with Sulthan Bathery got a  push forward . The government it is reported released  sic of the Rs. 12 crore approved for the project.

 MLA, Mangaluru City South  J.R. Lobo, said  that the bridge would be built by the Public Works Department which had estimated the total project cost at Rs. 18 crore.  It is expected to prove to be a tourist attraction.

He said that the government has released Rs. 6 crore for 2014-15 and another Rs. 6 crore would be released during the current financial year. 

 The project was initiated by the former MLA of Mangaluru City South N. Yogish Bhat and the government issued an order for its construction in 2006.  After the government sanctioned Rs. 1 crore for it in 2008, the work was entrusted to the Nirmiti Kendra which did some preliminary work of  in 2011-12.   It has spent about Rs. 70 lakh for the piling. Though initially it was a tourism department project later it was shifted to the PWD which now would have to continue the works.
