Mangalore, Feb 11, 2014: Two poor women Akku and Leela who have finally secured justice after over four decades long struggle for their rightful wages, will be conferred Pannabha Puraskar of Ranga Bharathi, Mangalore. The award presentation ceremony will be held at Rotary Bhavan, Manipal on February 12 evening.
It may be mentioned here that Akku and Leela had worked for several years at a government educational institution in Udupi for a paltry salary of Rs 15.The two were helped by noted consumer activist Dr. Ravindranath Shanbagh in their fight for justice.
Shanbagh will also be present at the function and will narrate the travails of the two elderly women.
Several dignitaries including Dr Mohan Alva, President of Alva’s Foundation , Girija Rao, President of Rotary Club, Manipal and Harikrishna Punaroor, former Kannada Sahitya Parishat President will participate in the function.
A short film depicting the fight for justice of Akku and Leela will also be screened on the occasion.
