Mangaluru, Aug 08, 2015: A 32-year-old labourer died at a city hospital on Friday morning following an assault on Thursday night.
His 37-year-old friend escaped with a minor injury on his hand and chest.
According to the Bantwal police, Mohammed Mustafa (37) had come to Melkar to see his relative, who was admitted in a hospital. On the way back to his house in Malady, he picked up his friend Nasir (32) at Melkar.
Unexpected attack
The police said that near the Shiva temple in Sajipamooda, four persons were allegedly waiting on two motorcycles around 11 p.m. Two of them stopped the autorickshaw and sought direction for Kukkaje village. As Mustafa was explaining, they allegedly pulled the duo out of the autorickshaw and assaulted them. Superintendent of Police Sharanappa S.D. said that Nasir, who was badly injured on the head, died in the early hours of Friday in a private hospital in Mangaluru.
Out of danger
Mr. Sharanappa said that Mr. Mustafa, who was injured on the chest and hands and admitted to the same hospital, was out of danger. Mr. Sharanappa said that the police were trying to trace the assailants. “We are working on a few clues,” he said.
The attack led to tense condition at the hospital in Mangaulru where a large crowd gathered.
A similar mood prevailed in Sajipamooda where additional forces were posted to ensure peace in the area.
