Udupi, Nov 17, 2012 : A group of alleged Bajrang Dal activists assaulted a Dalit youth recently.The victim Nagaraj (22) of Uppoor, along with Nagaraj Nayak, Nithesh, Mithun, Santhosh Prashanth, Bharath, Suresh, and Afzal, were assaulted by a group of alleged Bajrang Dal activists at Kukkehalli in Hiriyadka recently.

A severely injured Nagaraj is now in Ajjarakad Hospital.

Nagaraj and his friends had hired a Tavera car to visit Shirgeri Temple. When they were returning, two young men on a motorbike stopped their car, dragged them out, and assaulted them. Nagaraj stated in his complaint that the young men accused them of hitting their bike.

Soon, a huge group of around 30 people arrived on motorbikes, rickshaws, and other vehicles and assaulted Nagaraj, his friends, and Afzal, the driver of the Tavera car. All of them were drunk and said that they belonged to the Bajrang Dal. They also stole hid gold chain and mobile phone and threatened them not to complain to the police.

Nagaraj said that their car never hit their motorbike, adding that they only wanted a reason to attack them. He says that he does not know why he was attacked.

The Hiriyadka police have registered a case.
