A number of rumours about Bannanje Raja’s arrest and release by the Dubai Police have been flying around. According to these rumours, the Dubai Police had released Raja after interrogating him about certain irregularities in his passport and that he would not be handed over to the Karnataka Police. Recently, Gopal Hosur, inspector general of police (western range), denied all these rumours.
Mr. Hosur said: “We have delivered a red-corner notice against Bannanje Raja within 24 hours of his arrest by the Dubai Police. Right now, legal formalities with regard to certain irregularities in his passport are going on in Dubai. We are in contact with the Dubai Police. Raja will soon be brought to India and tried here.”
Ajai Kumar Singh, the state director general of police in Bangalore, also confirmed that the Karnataka Police had delivered a red-corner notice to the Dubai Police through the Interpol. He also confirmed that the department is in constant touch with the Interpol with regard to the issue of Bannanje Raja.
Mr. Singh spoke to reporters on the occasion of the Police Martyrs’ Day and confirmed that Bannaje Raja would be brought to India after the Dubai police finish interrogating him about the irregularities found in his passport.
