Mangalore, Nov 28: The District Level Youth Convention was jointly organized by the Government of India Youth Service and Sports Ministry, Nehru Youth Centre of Mangalore, and National Service Scheme of Mangalore. The Best Youth Club Award 2008-09 Ceremony was organized today as a part of it at Dr Shivaram Karanth Hall of University College, Mangalore. Kanaka Majalu, a youth club, received the Best Club Award, for its notable social work. The District Youth Award was conferred on Vanitha of Haleyangadi and Yathish of Karkala for their achievements during the previous year.
MP Nalin Kumar Kateel inaugurated the formal function and said that the youth clubs should be awarded for their noble deeds. Neither should the clubs be discriminated against nor should political influence be used while selecting clubs for awards. He regretted that most of the clubs today only celebrate their annual days or work for publicity purposes. They are hardly interested in the welfare of society. He urged youth clubs to do a lot of social work and work for the development of the country. Every club must contribute toward the development of the country, he said. The youth must be guided by influential sources to work for the development of the country, he urged.
Freedom fighter Namdev Shenoy was facilitated at the event.
President of ZPDK K Santhosh Kumar Bhandary, Mayor Shankar Bhatt, and Ananthappa B of Nehru Youth Centre were the dignitaries on the dais.
