Mangalore, Aug 21, 2012 : Dr. Aloysius Paul D’Souza, bishop of Mangalore, laid the foundation stone for a new presbytery at Alangar Parish, in the presence of MLA Abhaychandra Jain, Fr. Basil Vas, the parish priest, Fr. Austin Peres, the vicar, and several guest priests.
On the same occasion, MLA Abhaychandra Jain inaugurated the new toilet block for St. Thomas Educational Institutions. A total of Rs. 6 lakh was spent on constructing the new toilet block for St. Thomas Educational Institution, and entrepreneur Ronald Colaco had donated Rs. 3 lakh for this project.
The bishop also blessed a house, constructed as part of the Mangalore Diocese’s post centenary jubilee houses for the poor program, and presented it to Ivan D’Souza of Alangar Parish.
Sr. Mary Ivy, headmistress of the Kannada medium school presented mementos to all the guests.
Among those present were Jerald Lobo, vice president of the parish; P. K. Thomas, constructor; teachers and students of the school; and members of the management committee. Over a thousand devotees took part in the Holy Mass, followed by a mid-day meal
