Udupi, Sep 06, 2014: The police have recovered the bodies of a 17-year-old girl and a 22-year-old man — one from the banks of the Shambhavi and the other from the seashore in Udupi district.
While the girl’s body was found from the river bank on Thursday, the man’s body was recovered on Friday.
Sunil Naik, Circle Inspector, told The Hindu on Friday that the girl and the man named Pradeep had gone missing from Palimar village on September 3.
The girl’s relatives filed a case of kidnapping on the same day.
Even as the police launched a search for the girl, they found the body on the banks of the Shambhavi at Hejmady village at around 4 p.m. on September 4.
Pradeep’s body was found washed away on the seashore at Mattu village.
‘In love’
While the girl was studying in Udupi, Pradeep worked as a painter. Before leaving house, Pradeep had written to his mother that he was in love and that he was “committing a mistake by leaving house”.
Mr. Naik said that post-mortem revealed that the girl drowned. The police suspected that the girl and Pradeep were in love and that they might have ended their lives. “It is a case of suicide,” he said.
A case has been registered in the Padubidri police station. Investigation is on, the police said.
