Bus stop matter for Lokayukta

Bus stop matter for Lokayukta

Mangalore Today News Network

UDUPI, Aug 05, 2014:  Karkala Town Municipal council member Mohammed Sharief has said that if the district administration and RTO fails to provide stoppage for buses at Bandimutt bus stop within a week, the public in Karkala would approach Lokayukta.  He spoke to media saying, as per the High Court order, the buses passing through Karkala should enter Bandimutt bus stop.

But the RTO has joined hands with private bus owners and has not issued permits for the buses to enter Bandimutt bus stop. It is an act of contempt of court, he alleged.  He added that a petition will be moved in the court.

In 2012, the High Court had issued directions for the buses to use both the bus stops, one in Bandimutt and the other at Karkala town. Bandimutt bus stop was built at a cost of Rs two crore and the amount spent is utter waste following the unwillingness of bus owners and drivers to enter the bus stand.  The Town Municipality member flayed that RTO is totally under the pressure of private bus owners’ lobby. He is not issuing permits to the buses to enter Bandimutt bus stop. The Deputy Commissioner is authorised to issue the permits. Sharief urged the DC to issue the permits immediately.

Though KSTRC buses enter Bandimutt bus stop, no state buses ply from Karkala to Mangalore. An application seeking the stoppage of eight buses at the bus stop was earlier submitted to the Regional Transport Officer, no avail, he rued.
