Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru, Aug 14, 2015: As per a media release, Sammilan Shetty’s Park Belvai will organise a two-day awareness programme for nature-lovers on August 15 and 16, to mark the second anniversary of the butterfly park.

The park has added 18 new species to its checklist in a span of two years, thus making the total count of butterfly species in the park 131 - out of approximately 339 species found in the Western Ghats.  The remarkable record for this year was the spotting of Aberrant Oakblue and Orchid Tit, which are among the rare butterfly species, restricted to strictly rich and diverse habitats.

The registration for participants will open on both days at 8.30 am at the park, and will close at 9 am. The programme highlights include a talk by Sammilan Shetty on butterflies and the importance of their conservation, followed by a video presentation showcasing some interesting facts about butterflies. A walk in the butterfly park along with volunteers, who will assist in spotting identifying butterflies in the field is part of the programme. Tips for photographing butterflies will also be shared.
