CAMPCO demands justifiable compensation for distressed areca growers

Mangalore, Sep 8, 2013:  Konkodi Padmanabha, President of CAMPCO, the apex co-operative of areca growers, has  pressurized the  Union Government to come to the aid of the distressed areca growers by providing justifiable compensation to them.

Speaking to reporters at the CAMPCO office here on September 7, Saturday, he said the ‘Kole’ disease has hit hard the growers and  added that the loss has been estimated at Rs 1200. The growers are in great hardship and are finding it difficult  to make both ends meet, he said  and urged the government to provide compensation to the affected growers of Karnataka as well as Kerala.

He said  the CM Siddaramaiah has responded positively to the demand when a  delegation of CAMPCO had recently  met him.

Konkodi Padmanabha also informed that the CAMPCO will open an outlet at  Porbunder on September 9.

CAMPCO Vice-presidents  Satishchandra Bhandary and Suresh Bhandary and others were present.
