Mangalore Today News Network

June 12, 2017: Speaking to the media, the Vijaya Bank deputy general manager Nagaraj said girl students  adopted by the bank would receive Rs 5,000 annually for Class 1 to 10th and Rs 10,000 for PUC and also for three-year degree courses. A sum of Rs 20,000 annually will be given for postgraduate studies. The bank had adopted 44 girls for the year 2016-17 and has adopted 10 girls for the year 2017-18 so far, he said.

Nagaraj said the bank prefers funding the education of students from government colleges. However, there is no problem to fund the beneficiary if the student aspires to learn in private schools and colleges, he added.

He said the bank has adopted Soumya from Shirva, whose mother works as a daily-wage worker. Soumya will opt for commerce in her PU education. She had scored 94.24% in SSLC and aims to be a charted accountant.
