Udupi, Dec 23, 2015 : K. Channabasappa, Additional Deputy Commissioner, has directed all cable television operators to install digital set-top boxes to all cable television sets in Udupi city, Kundapur and Karkala towns by December 31, as per the Union government’s ’Digital Addressable Cable Television System’ regulations.
He was chairing a meeting of cable television operators at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office here.
Channabasappa said that as per the Union government’s notification, cable television digitisation was compulsory. The Revenue Department had been appointed as the nodal agency to oversee the effective implementation of the notification. The Additional Deputy Commissioners of all districts had been nominated as nodal officers.
Installation of set-top boxes was compulsory for all houses with cable television connection in Udupi, Kundapur and Karkala. Cable television operators said there were 1,75,000 houses with cable connections in Udupi and Kundapur towns. Of these, set-top boxes had been installed in 60,000 houses.
