Mangaluru, April 10, 2017: The presence of mind of a railway employee to immediately call the police control room following no response from his wife to his call helped the police to reach the house in time and apprehend a man who had robbed the woman of jewellery.
Sachidanand, who works in the Southern Railway, had been to his relative’s house in Kulashekara. His wife Ambujakshi was alone at home in the Railway Quarters, near Mangaluru Central Railway Station. Around 2 p.m. Sachidanand called his wife on her mobile phone. When she did not answer the call, Sachidanand immediately called the police control room. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) M. Sanjeev Patil said that the crime staff from Mangaluru South Police Station rushed to the house to see a man running away from the rear door of the house. The police apprehended him.
Mr. Patil said that Ambujakshi who was found on the floor of the house in an unconscious state was immediately taken to a private hospital. Ambujakshi was reportedly hit on the head and strangled by the offender who then made away with her gold ornaments.
Mr. Patil said the arrested man was being questioned. The police are finding whether more persons are involved in the incident. He commended Sachidanand for the prompt action in calling the police that helped them to catch the suspect.
