Cancel appointment lists without proper quota: Narendra Swamy

Mangalore, April 26: Narendra Swamy, Minister for Women and Child Welfare said that all appointment lists, which were prepared without giving proportionate reservation for physically challenged people, will be cancelled.

He was delivering the inaugural address at the South India conference of the All India Banks’ Physically Handicapped Employees’ Welfare Federation held at the Town Hall here on Sunday, April 25.
 

Minister said that the department officials were instructed to check whether appointments were made according to the Supreme Court directive.


“Officials should ensure 3 per cent reservation for A and B category while C and D category people should be given 5 per cent reservation in the appointment,” he said.


Responding to various demands of the Federation, Swamy said the government is ready to hold discussion with organisation leaders. However, he said, as the election code of conduct is in force, no assurance can be given till the end of Panchayatiraj elections.
 

Speaking on the occasion, A C Rai, the Federation President said that an MLC seat should be reserved for physically challenged persons. The move will be of great help in finding solutions to the problems faced by physically challenged persons in the State, he added.


The Government should take initiative to provide free and unlimited bus pass to all persons, who have more than 90 per cent disabilities.


Atleast 2 stalls should be reserved for physically challenged persons in all commercial establishments of the government and semi-government sectors, he urged. 


Further, he demanded that the government should sanction atleast Rs 10,000 to families, which has more than two disabled persons.


Gurudevananda Swamiji of Gurudeva Datta Samsthanam blessed the occasion. Krishna J Palemar, District-in-Charge Minister, Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP, Rajani Dugganna, Mangalore City Corporation Mayor, MLAs N Yogish Bhat, B Ramanath Rai, and UT Khader were present.
