Mangalore, Dec 14: The Carmelites of Infant Jesus Shrine, Bikarnakatte, celebrated their 22nd Carmel Day. The event attracted a large number of people.
The winner of District Best Teacher Award 2009 Mr. Aloysius D’Souza, who is currently serving as the headmaster of Rosario High School, Mangalore, was invited to be the chief guest of the programme. Fr. Provincial felicitated him with a shawl. In his inaugural speech, Mr. Aloysius D’Souza lauded the Carmelites for their service to Christian community of Mangalore.
Fr. Archibald Gonsalves OCD, the provincial of the Karnataka-Goa Carmelite Province, was the president of the cultural programme that evening. Fr. George Santhumayor, the superior of St. Joseph’s Monastery made the welcome speech and read the annual report. Fr. Alwyn Sequiera OCD expressed gratitude. Br. Rajesh D’Souza and Br. Richard Menezes were the masters of ceremony.
A Konkani drama “Tuji Khuxi Zaum” written by Fr. Deep Fernandes and Bro Sunil Fernandes and directed by Maxim Rodrigues was staged that evening. The play revolves around the life of a priest. A colorful cultural programme comprising a prayer session, a group song, a creative presentation of Genesis, and a Konkani song was also presented.
