Mangaluru, Jan 23, 2016 :Mangaluru City police have registered a case of abetment to suicide and another under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, against the management of a private, grant-in-aid PU college in Kodagu district, after the college principal committed suicide at Mangaluru.
City Police Commissioner M. Chandra Sekhar told presspersons here on Jan 22, Friday that deceased Sudesh’s wife Snehalatha had petitioned the Urwa police. In her complaint, aggrieved Snehalatha stated that the management of the college, comprising people from upper castes, was constantly harassing her husband.
The 45-year-old principal had earlier indicated to her that he would commit suicide as he was fed up with the harassment. Sudesh, a native of Talapady near Mangaluru, was working with D. Chennamma Pre University College, Madapura, in Somawarpet taluk. He reportedly came to Mangaluru and hired a room in the guesthouse in Bejai. On Jan 21, he was found dead in the room. Snehalatha, who works as training officer with an ITI in Katipalla, near Surathkal, petitioned the police seeking redress action.
