Catholic society gives scholarships to economically backward students

Mangalore, June 08:  An educational aid programme was organized by Kanara Catholic Educational Cooperative Society in its office at Catholic Centre on June 6, Sunday with entrepreneur Louis J. Pinto as the chief guest.  


Seventy Kannada medium students received scholarships worth Rs 50,000. Mr. Pinto urged the students who received the educational aid to make the best use of it and progress.  


The donors were Ronald Colaco, the Bangalore-based entrepreneur; Rohan Monteiro, the real estate developer; Desmond D’Souza of Fujaira; Anges Rodrigues of Bendore; Celine Saldanha of Bendore; Ferlin Pinto of Bendore; and Lancy Mascarenhas, the Mangalore-based architect. They have been donating annually for several years.  


The Kanara Catholic Educational Cooperative Society has been giving away scholarships to economically backward Kannada medium schools in Dakshina Kannada for the past 10 years. The society also gives loans to students for their higher education. 


Rudolph D’Silva, the president of Kanara Catholic Educational Cooperative Society, welcomed the gathering. Lawrence Pinto, the honorary secretary, read the names of the students. Ullas Rasquinha, the director, proposed the vote of thanks. George Rodrigues, the director, compered the programme.
